Are you a citizen from a country outside the European Union (Non-EU citizen) in the process of getting all your legal documents sorted out to live, study or work in Barcelona? Check out this article where we outline all you need to know about the TIE, Empadronamiento. Only in select cases will you be required to get your Social Security Number.

You will stay in Spain LESS than 6 months and you will either study or do an unpaid internship? These are the documents you need:

  • Luckily for  you, there is no further paperwork required. Your visa is sufficient.

You will stay in Spain LESS than 6 months and you will either work or do a paid internship? These are the documents you need:

  • Empadronamiento: This document will make you a citizen of the city in which you reside.
  • TIE: You will need to apply for the TIE within 30 days of your arrival in Spain!
  • Social Security Number (“número de afiliación”)
