You may recognize her from The Sea Wall for playing Suzanne, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides as the mermaid Syrena, and I Origins as Sofi. Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey is both an actress and model. She was born in Barcelona and raised in the French countryside. Her father is Spanish and her mother is French-American. She is one of three daughters and was only 2 years old when her parents divorced. She then moved to France at age 5 and took up acting in school plays as a hobby. In her late teens she moved to Paris to try out a career in Osteopathy. She could not find consistent work and ended up moving around a lot. Soon after her father died at a young age and she decided to follow her passion for acting. This led her to start drama school and begin her career as an actress. Today she incorporates her love of science and the human body into her acting. She says that she pays a lot of to how her character moves and how they articulate.
Her acting debut was in 2007 on French television. A year later she starred in her first film The Sea Wall. She was hand picked by the director and producer in the Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in 2011. Interestingly, while they filming the movie in Hawaii she was not allowed outside during the daylight in order to preserve her pale skin. Around the same time, she began modeling for French Connection’s campaigns. Unlike most famous people, she is aware and grateful of her tremendous luck in both the model and acting industries. Also due to her unique upbringing and different films she is fluent in Catalan, Spanish, French, Italian, and English. Currently, she is a brand ambassador for Chanel and is starring in another American film. The film is called King Arthur: Legend of the Sword and is directed by Guy Ritchie. It also stars Charlie Hunnam and Jude Law. Keep an eye out for this movie coming out later this year.
