Barcelona’s neighbourhoods are like little towns in themselves. They have unique histories, individual cultures and rich, proud communities! One such area is the massive district of l’Eixample. The district itself  is divided into 4 parts – L’Antiga Esquerra de l’Eixample (Old Left l’Eixample), La Nova Esquerra de l’Eixample (New Left l’Eixample), Sant Antoni and Dreta de l’Eixample (Right l’Eicample). Every fall, the barrio of Esquerra de l’Eixample hosts a community festival – simply called Festa Major de l’Esquerra de l’Eixample.

festamajor3This year, the festival will be held from September 30th – October 9th and will encompass several aspects of the community culture in Old Left Eixample. The Festa Major aims to bring the people of Eixample (and visitors, of course) together as one community. There are many events like free-live concerts and open-air theatrical performances for people the gather together and enjoy. But, also several events for those with a particular interest or taste! For the art lovers out there, there will be photography, sketch work, painting, graphic art and audio visual exhibitions. The foodies out there will find Catalan pica-picas and culture junkies can check out several historical tours and presentations. On top of all of these events, visitors can check out the gorgeous rose garden, kids activities, informative conferences, the sports park and several award shows for prominent community members!
